Commonwealth of Australia

Information regarding the transition to a new visa system
Since the 16th of July 2012, the Australian Embassy in Ankara has refused to affix visa labels to passports.

This new arrangement applies to permanent as well as provisional business, tourist, partner and student visas.

Label-free travel reduces the chance of visas being falsified. Visa holders can travel to Australia without a visa label in their passport. Visa is linked to passport which is filed together with visa application. Travelers should carry with them both: passports and visa applications. Visa applicants are also issued with visa grant notification letters, which they should also carry with them. However, passports and visa applications provide the sufficient proof for airline staff to decide whether visas are valid or not.

Australia’s electronic system allows airline staff to check online the visa status of those who depart from Australia.

Airline staff can contact Australia’s Entry Operations Centre around-the-clock.

Advantages of the new system are as follows:

The applicant is not required to send his/her passport to the Embassy but only a notarized copy of the biometric data page of his/her passport together with visa application;
If the applicant fails to file any original document, no service of sending any such document by mail or of returning it to the applicant will be applied;
The applicant may be electronically notified about the outcome of his/her visa application;
The new system allows the applicant to file his/her visa application with the embassy of Australia and with those of other countries simultaneously;
There is no risk of passport loss or address mismatch.
How can the applicant learn about visa requirements?

The Applicant will receive a letter specifying the conditions and validity period of his/her visa.

Should the applicant lose such letter or need additional information, he/she may use the Visa Entitlement Verification (VEVO) system.

VEVO is an online service which enables online checking of visa details by visa holders.

Information provided in VEVO includes:

Visa class (category) and subclass (subcategory)
Visa grant and expiry dates
Visa number
Entry date
Accompanying persons
Number of entries
Period of stay.
For additional information regarding VEVO check out the website at: www.immi.gov.ge
